MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 3

Wednesday, February 12, 2003

The Subcommittee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Mac Harb, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Stéphane Bergeron, Bill Casey, Rick Casson, Mac Harb, Bob Speller.

Acting Members present: Raymond Simard for Tony Valeri, Murray Calder for Pat O'Brien.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Michael Holden, Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: David Mulroney, Assistant Deputy Minister, Portfolio: Asia-Pacific. From the Department of Industry: John M. Banigan, Assistant Deputy Minister, Industry Sector; John Klassen, Executive Director, Investment Partnerships Canada. From the Canadian International Development Agency: Brian Hunter, Senior Economist; Jonathan Rothschild, Senior Economist, Policy Branch; Raymond Drouin, Program Manager, Industrial Cooperation Division.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Examination in view of strengthening economic relations between Canada and Asia.

David Mulroney, Brian Hunter, John Banigan and John Klassen made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:03 o'clock p.m., the Subcommittee proceeded to an in camera meeting.

The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of future business.

It was agreed, - That the travel budget for Asia, in the amount of $198,492.10, be adopted.

At 5:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
