Meeting No. 2

Wednesday, February 5, 2003

The Subcommittee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Acting Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Bill Casey, Rick Casson, Mark Eyking, Pat O'Brien, Svend Robinson, Bob Speller.

Acting Members present: Murray Calder for Tony Valeri, Suzanne Tremblay for Stéphhane Bergeron and Raymond Simard for Mac Harb.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg and Marcus Pistor, Analysts.

Appearing: From the House of Commons: The Hon. David Kilgour, Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific).

Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: David Mulroney, Assistant Deputy Minister, Portfolio: Asia-Pacific; Ken Sunquist, Director General, Trade Commissioner Service Overseas Programs and Services.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Examination in view of strengthening economic relations between Canada and Asia

The Secretary of State made an opening statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
