The Subcommittee on Children and Youth at Risk of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:21 p.m. this day, in Room 536 Wellington Building, the chair, John Godfrey, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: John Finlay, Sébastien Gagnon, John Godfrey, Ovid Jackson, Wendy Lill, Anita Neville and Alan Tonks.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Stephen Owen, Secretary of State (Western Economic Diversification) (Indian Affairs and Northern Development).

 

Witnesses: Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development : Joan Atkinson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Socio-Economic Policy and Programs Sector. Statistics Canada: Andy Siggner, Senior Analyst, Aboriginal Statistics.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Draft Work Plan for Study of On-Reserve Aboriginal Children from Age 6 to 12.
 

Hon. Stephen Owen and Andy Siggner made a statement and with the other witness answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That, at this stage, the Committee did not gather enough evidence to write a report on Aboriginal Children 6 to 12 years of age living on reserve,therefore the meeting scheduled on November 4th for this purpose is cancelled .

 

It was agreed, — That, if the House reconvenes on November 17th, the Subcommittee invite officials regarding the government's response on the Committee's report tabled June 12, 2003 entitled: Building a Brighter future for Urban Aboriginal Children. .

 

It was agreed, — That, thereafter the Committee pursue its study on Aboriginal Children 6 to 12 years of age living on reserve.

 

At 4:39 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
