Meeting No. 13

Wednesday, April 30, 2003

The Subcommittee on Children and Youth at Risk of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:24 p.m. this day, in Room 306, West Block, the Chair, John Godfrey, presiding.

Members of the Subcommittee present: Sébastien Gagnon, John Godfrey, Wendy Lill and Larry Spencer.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Senate: Hon. Landon Pearson, Advisor on Children's Rights to the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Andrea Khan, Policy Analyst and Researcher, Office of the Hon. Landon Pearson. From Marymound North: Kelly Ostrowski, Director. From the Rainbow Youth Centre: Kim Wolbaum, Coordinator, Young Parent Program; Nadine Egler-Wiome, Co-facilitator, Young Parent Program.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced a study on Canada's National Plan of Action for Children in response to "A World Fit for Children".

Senator Landon Pearson made a statement and answered questions.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and its Order of Reference from the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, November 5, 2002, Meeting No. 1), the Subcommittee resumed its study on aboriginal children from 0 to 12 years living in urban areas.

Kelly Ostrowski, Kim Wolbaum and Nadine Egler-Wiome made statements and answered questions.

At 5:06 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
