Meeting No. 42

Wednesday, May 7, 2003

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Walt Lastewka, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Paul Crête, Brian Fitzpatrick, Walt Lastewka, Serge Marcil, Dan McTeague, James Rajotte, Andy Savoy, Brent St. Denis, Joseph Volpe.

Acting Member present:  Dave Chatters for Cheryl Gallant.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, research officer.

Witnesses: From the Petro-Canada: Ford Ralph, Vice-President, Wholesale and Retail; Tom Lawson, National Pricing Manager. From the Ultramar Ltd.: Jean Drolet, General Manager, Retail Development, François Trudelle, Director, Product Supply and Operations Optimization;. From the Shell Canada Limited: Terry Blaney, Vice-President Marketing, Lesley Taylor, manager, Public Affairs – Ontario.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of the possible causes of the recent increase in the price of gasoline, and the significant negative effects that the increase is having on the economy, and can recommend appropriate corrective measures to the federal government.

Ford Ralph made an opening statement and with Tom Lawson answered questions.

At 4:14 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 4:16 p.m. the sitting resumed.

François Trudelle made an opening statement and with Jean Drolet answered questions.

At 4:49 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 4:52 p.m. the sitting resumed.

Terry Blaney made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
