The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:18 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Walt Lastewka, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Paul Crête, Brian Fitzpatrick, Walt Lastewka, Serge Marcil, Dan McTeague, Andy Savoy and Brent St. Denis.

Other Member present: Joe Fontana.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Geoffrey P. Kieley and Dan Shaw, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission: Charles Dalfen, Chairman; David Colville, Vice-Chairperson, Telecommunications and Commissioner, Atlantic Region; Allan Rosenzveig, General Counsel, Telecommunications; Shirley Soehn, Executive Director, Telecommunications. From the Department of Industry: Konrad von Finckenstein, Commissioner of Competition, Competition Bureau; Gaston Jorré, Acting Commissioner of Competition, Competition Bureau.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of Foreign Investment Restrictions Applicable to Telecommunications Common Carriers.

Charles Dalfen made an opening statement and, with David Colville answered questions.

At 4:39 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:44 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Konrad von Finckenstein made an opening statement and, with Gaston Jorré answered questions.

At 5:43 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
