The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 269 West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: Gilbert Barrette, Carolyn Bennett, Bonnie Brown, Jeannot Castonguay, Stan Dromisky, Hedy Fry, Grant Hill, Karen Kraft Sloan and Rob Merrifield.

 

Acting Members present: Joe Comartin for Svend Robinson, Rodger Cuzner for Brenda Chamberlain, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral for Diane Bourgeois, Michel Guimond for Réal Ménard, James Lunney for Betty Hinton, Gary Schellenberger for Greg Thompson and Alan Tonks for Hélène Scherrer.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Richard Rumas, Committee Clerk.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Chair.

 

On motion of Jeannot Castonguay, it was agreed, — That Bonnie Brown be elected Chair of the Committee.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Vice-Chairs.

On motion of Rodger Cuzner, it was agreed — That Stan Dromisky be elected as Government Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Rob Merrifield moved, — That Grant Hill be elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Hedy Fry moved, — That Réal Ménard be elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(3), the election was conducted by secret ballot.

The ballots having been counted, Réal Ménard was declared duly elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

At 3:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

On motion of Stan Dromisky, ORDERED, — That the Clerk of the Committee destroy the ballots.

 

At 3:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
