Meeting No. 13

Thursday, February 6, 2003

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 11:06 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Tom Wappel, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Andy Burton, Loyola Hearn, Carmen Provenzano, Jean-Yves Roy, Peter Stoffer, Tom Wappel, Bob Wood.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon and Lorie Srivastava, research officers.  From the House of Commons Committees Directorate:  Jeffrey LeBlanc, procedural clerk.

Witnesses: From the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters: Dave Brown, Fisheries Biologist; Greg Farrant, Manager, Government Relations; Francine MacDonald, Biologist, Invading Species. From the McGill University: Prof. Anthony Ricciardi, School of Environment. From the Great Lakes Fishery Commission: Chris Goddard, Executive Secretary; Marc Gaden, Legislative Liaison.

Carmen Provenzano gave notice of the following motion:  That, notwithstanding any previous motion, the Committee move forthwith to consider and complete consideration of the draft report on aquaculture and that no new business be considered until the report has been disposed with.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced a study on invasive species (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, January 30, 2003, Meeting No. 11).

The witnesses made presentations and answered questions.

At 12:51 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
