The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Roy Cullen, Albina Guarnieri, Sophia Leung, The Hon. Maria Minna, Charlie Penson, Pauline Picard, Gary Pillitteri, Tony Valeri, Bryon Wilfert.
Acting Members present: Pat Martin for Lorne Nystrom, James Lunney for Rahim Jaffer.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal Analyst; Blayne Haggart and Marc-André Pigeon, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Healthcare Association: Sharon Sholzberg-Gray, President and Chief Executive Officer; Kathryn Tregunna, Director, Policy Development. From the Council for Health Research in Canada: Dr. John Hylton, Executive Director; Helen Ghent, Chair. From the Canadian Alliance for Children's Healthcare: Dr. Jean-Victor Wittenberg, President, Staff Psychiatrist, Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto - Associate Professor, University of Toronto. From the Canadian Medical Association: Dr. Dana Hanson, President; William Tholl, Secretary General and CEO.
Pursuant to Standing Order 83(1), the Committee continued its pre-budget discussions.
Sharon Scholberg-Gray, Dr. John Hylton, Dr. Jean-Victor Wittenberg and Dr. Dana Hanson each made a statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.
At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
