Meeting No. 2

Tuesday, October 22, 2002

The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 9:25 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Scott Brison, Roy Cullen, Richard Harris, Rahim Jaffer, Sophia Leung, The Hon. Maria Minna, Tony Valeri.

Acting Members present: Shawn Murphy for Albina Guarnieri, Odina Desrochers for Pauline Picard, Pat Martin for Lorne Nystrom.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal Analyst; Blayne Haggart, Marc-André Pigeon, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada: Mark Goldblatt, Senior Consultant. From the Coalition to Renew Canada's Infrastructure: Jim Facette, President. From the Canadian Real Estate Association: Pierre Beauchamp, Chief Executive Officer; Gregory Klump, Senior Economist. From the Canadian Consortium for Research: Paul Ledwell, Chairperson; Paul Jones, Member. From the Alliance to End Homelessness: Maura Volante, Coordinator. From the Association of Fundraising Professionals: Rob Peacock, President. From the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation: Jeffrey Dale, President & CEO; Chris Henderson, Chair. From the Building and Construction Trades Department: Robert Blakely, Director of Canadian Affairs. Pursuant to Standing Order 83(1), the Committee continued its pre-budget discussions.

Mark Goldblatt, Jim Facette, Pierre Beauchamp, Paul Ledwell each made a statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

At 11:00 o’clock, the sitting was suspended.

At 11:10 o’clock, the sitting resumed.

Maura Volant, Rob Peacock, Robert Blakely, Claude-Paul Boivin and Jean Szkotnicki each made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
