The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 269 West Block, the chair, Bernard Patry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stéphane Bergeron, Murray Calder, Aileen Carroll, Bill Casey, Irwin Cotler, Stockwell Day, John Harvard, Diane Marleau, Alexa McDonough, Bernard Patry and Karen Redman.

 

Acting Members present: Marlene Catterall for Art Eggleton and Yves Rocheleau for Francine Lalonde.

 

In attendance: Committees Directorate: Elizabeth B. Kingston, Committee Clerk. Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst; Gerald Schmitz, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: John McNee, Assistant Deputy Minister, Africa and Middle East; Konrad Sigurdson, Director General, Consular Affairs Bureau. Department of the Solicitor General: Richard Proulx, Assistant Commissioner, Criminal Intelligence Directorate, Royal Canadian Mounted Police. As Individual: Monia Mazigh. House of Commons: Irwin Cotler, M.P..

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its consideration of cases involving the detention of Canadian citizens in certain foreign countries.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:08 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:17 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 1:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
