The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Yvon Charbonneau, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Joe Fontana, Inky Mark, Grant McNally, Jerry Pickard, David Price, Judy Wasylycia-Leis, Lynne Yelich.
Acting Members present: Joseph Volpe for John Godfrey, Andrew Telegdi for Steve Mahoney.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin; Researcher.
Witnesses: From the Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Joan Atkinson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Program Development; Rosaline Frith, Director General, Integration; Patricia Birkett, Registrar, Citizenship; Paul Yurack, Counsel, Legal Services; Daniel Poulin, Counsel, War Crime Section, Department of Justice.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Friday, November 8, 2002, the
Committee resumed debate on Claude 2 consideration of Bill C-18, An Act
respecting Canadian citizenship (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday,
November 21, 2002, Meeting No. 6).
The Committee proceeded to a technical briefing on denial and annulment of citizenship.
Joan Atkinson and Rosaline Frith made opening statements and with the other witnesses answered questions.
At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
