Meeting No. 28

Tuesday, May 6, 2003

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Paul Steckle, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, Claude Duplain, John Maloney, Louis Plamondon, Bob Speller, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

Acting Member present: Rick Casson for Howard Hilstrom.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, analyst.

Witnesses: From the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food: Mark Corey, Assistant Deputy Minister, Market and Industry Services Branch; Steve Verheul, Chief Agriculture Trade Negotiator, International Trade Policy Directorate. From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: David Chatterson, Director, Multilateral Trade Policy Division.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to consider the current World Trade Organization negotiations on agriculture.

Mark Corey, David Chatters and Steve Verheul made opening statements and answered questions.

At 11:45 a.m., the meeting was suspended.

At  12:15 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of the current World Trade Organization negotiations on agriculture.

At 1:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
