Pursuant to Standing Order 32(2), Mr. Regan (Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons) laid upon the Table, — Government response, pursuant to Standing Order 36(8), to the following petition:

Presenting Reports from Committees

Mr. Bellemare (Ottawa-Orléans), from the Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages, presented the Sixth Report of the Committee (resolution on New Brunswick municipal bylaws). — Sessional Paper No. 8510-371-126.

A copy of the relevant Minutes of Proceedings (Meeting No. 26) was tabled.

Introduction of Private Members' Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Ms. St-Hilaire (Longueuil) , seconded by Ms. Guay (Laurentides) , Bill C-430, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (child care expenses), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Presenting Petitions

Pursuant to Standing Order 36, petitions certified correct by the Clerk of Petitions were presented as follows:

— by Mr. Adams (Peterborough) , one concerning terrorism (No. 371-0564);

— by Mr. Reid (Lanark--Carleton) , one concerning the protection of the environment (No. 371-0565).

Questions on Order Paper

Mr. Regan (Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons) presented the answer to question Q-89 on the Order Paper.

Privilege

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Pallister (Portage--Lisgar) , seconded by Mr. Reynolds (West Vancouver--Sunshine Coast) , — That the charge against the Minister of National Defence of making misleading statements in the House be referred to the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs;

And of the amendment of Mr. Keddy (South Shore), seconded by Mr. MacKay (Pictou--Antigonish--Guysborough), — That the motion be amended by striking out the words “the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs” and substituting the following:

    “a Special Committee of the House, the membership of which will be on the same party ratio as the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs and be elected in each caucus by a secret ballot to be conducted under the direction of the Speaker in a process similar to that used by the House to elect the Speaker.”.

By unanimous consent, it was ordered, — That the debate be now adjourned.
