Meeting No. 26

Wednesday, May 22, 2002

The Sub-Committee on Children and Youth at Risk of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:44 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, John Godfrey, presiding.

Member(s) of the Sub-Committee present: John Godfrey, Monique Guay, Anita Neville and Alan Tonks.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant and Tonina Simeone, Research Officers.

Witness(es): From the "Assemblée des Premières nations du Québec & du Labrador": Ghislain Picard, Regional Vice Chief; Marjolaine Sioui, Coordinator - early childhood, "Commission de la santé et des services sociaux des premières nations du Québec et du Labrador"; Jules Picard, Coordinator of Social Services, "Commission de la santé et des services sociaux des premières nations du Québec et du Labrador".

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and its Order of Reference from the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, the Sub-Committee resumed its study on the status of aboriginal children living on and off reserves and on federal programs available to them (See Minutes of Proceedings of March 01, 2001 – Meeting No.06).

Ghislain Picard made a statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

At 4:50 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:52 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera to give directions to the research staff on the drafting of a report on Aboriginal Children 0 to 6 years of age.

At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
