Wednesday, January 30, 2002

The Sub-Committee on Children and Youth at Risk of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:27 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, John Godfrey, presiding.

Member(s) of the Sub-Committee present: John Godfrey, Monique Guay, Anita Neville, Tony Tirabassi and Alan Tonks.

Acting Member(s) present: Larry Spencer for Carol Skelton.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Julie Mackenzie, Research Officer.

Witness(es): From the Department of Human Resources Development: Bayla Kolk, Director General, Aboriginal Relations Office; Mary Quinn, Director General, Social Policy Directorate, Strategic Policy; Kathryn McDade, Director, Children’s Policy Directorate, Social Policy; Ashique Biswas, Senior Analyst, Aboriginal Relations Office, Employment Programs Branch; Ron Paulhus, Policy Team Leader, Aboriginal Relations Office, Employment Programs Branch.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and its Order of Reference from the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (See Minutes of Proceedings of March 01, 2001 – Meeting No.06), the Sub-Committee resumed its study on the status of aboriginal children living on and off reserves and on federal programs available to them (See Minutes of Proceedings of November 7th, 2001 – Meeting No.10)

Bayla Kolk made a statement and, with the other witnesses answered question.

At 4:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
