The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in a televised session at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Stéphane Bergeron, Claude Drouin, Walt Lastewka, Dan McTeague, James Rajotte, Brent St. Denis and Susan Whelan.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Geoffrey P. Kieley, Lalita Acharya and James McQueen, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission: Prof. Allan Fels, Chairman. From the Retail Council of Canada: Peter Woolford, Senior Vice-President, Policy. From the Customs Excise Union: Serge Charette, National President.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Thursday, May 3, 2001, the Committee
resumed consideration of Bill C-23, An Act to amend the Competition Act and the
Competition Tribunal Act (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, October 4,
2001, Meeting No. 37).
Allan Fels made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 3:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 4:45 p.m., the sitting resumed.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of the Economic Impact on Canada of the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks.
Peter Woolford made an opening statement and answered questions.
Serge Charette made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
