The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Pierre Brien, Bev Desjarlais, Walt Lastewka and Susan Whelan.

Acting Members present: Stéphan Tremblay for Jocelyne Girard-Bujold and Claude Drouin for John Cannis.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Geoffrey P. Kieley, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Department of Industry: Lee Gill, Director, Corporate Law Policy; Veronica Wessels, Senior Project Leader, SBCA Reform; Irving Miller, Legal Counsel, Department of Justice; Wayne Lennon, Senior Policy Analyst, CBCA Reform; Bob Weist, Director of Compliance, Corporations Directorate. From the Department of Transport: Valérie Dufour, Director General, Air Policy; Jacques E. Pigeon, Senior General Counsel, Legal Services. The Order of Reference dated Thursday, May 10, 2001, being now read as follows:

ORDERED, -- That Bill S-11, An Act to amend the Canada Business Corporations Act and the Canada Cooperatives Act and to amend other Acts be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology.

Lee Gill made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 4:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
