The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.
Member(s) of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Libby Davies, Monique Guay, Dale Johnston, Judi Longfield, Gurbax Malhi, Joe McGuire, Anita Neville, Joe Peschisolido, Larry Spencer, Diane St-Jacques, Greg Thompson and Alan Tonks.
Other Member(s) present: Pat Martin.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Julie Mackenzie and Bill Young, Research Officers.
Appearing: From the Department of Human Resources Development Canada: Claudette Bradshaw, Minister of Labour.
Witness(es): From the Department of Human Resources Development Canada: Neil Gavigan, Director, Labour Standards and Workplace Equity, Labour Branch; Gerry Blanchard, Director General, Labour Operations.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference dated December 3rd, 2001 and to section 44 of the Employment Equity Act, the Committee proceeded to the statutory review of the Act.
The Minister made a statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.
At 12:38 p.m. o’clock, the sitting was suspended.
At 12:40 p.m. o’clock, the sitting resumed in camera.
The Committee proceeded to discuss its future business.
At 12:48 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
