Thursday, April 26, 2001

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:13 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Peter Adams, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Peter Adams, Monique Guay, Judi Longfield, Joe McGuire, Val Meredith, Carol Skelton, Diane St-Jacques and Alan Tonks.

Acting Member(s) present: Carolyn Bennett for Tony Ianno and John Godfrey for Jeannot Castonguay.

Other Member(s) present: Wendy Lill.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Julie Mackenzie and Bill Young, Research Officers.

Witness(es): From the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work: Joan Westland, Executive Director. From the Canadian Paraplegic Association: François Bélisle, Chief Executive Officer. From the Council of Canadians with Disabilities: Laurie Beachell, National Co-ordinator; Paul A. Young, National Chairperson.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), discussion on children and youth at risk and on proposing, promoting monitoring and assessing of initiatives aimed at the integration and equality of disabled persons in all sectors of Canadian society

John Godfrey, Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Children and Youth at Risk presented the past and future workplan of the Sub-Committee.

Carolyn Bennett, Chairman of the Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities presented the past and future workplan of the Sub-Committee.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 1:06 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
