The Standing Committee on Finance met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Carolyn Bennett, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Roy Cullen, Ken Epp, Albina Guarnieri, Joe Peschisolido and Gary Pillitteri.

Acting Member present: Tony Valeri for Nick Discepola.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Marc-André Pigeon and Blayne Haggart, Researchers. From Committees and Associations Directorate: Pat Steenberg, Clerk of the Committee.

Appearing: From the Department of Finance: Roy Cullen, Parliamentary Secretary to the Finance Minister.

The Order of Reference dated Wednesday, March 14, 2001, being now read as follows:

ORDERED, -- That Bill C-13, An Act to amend the Excise Tax Act be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Finance.

The Chair called Clause 1.

The Parliamentary Secretary made a statement and with the other witnesses from the Department of Finance, answered questions.

At 9:50 a.m., Mike Tretheway made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:12 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
