Tuesday, October 23, 2001

The Standing Committee on Finance met at the Renaissance Vancouver Hotel at 9:00 a.m., the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Roy Cullen, Ken Epp, Lorne Nystrom.

Other Member present: Jim Pankiw.

In attendance: From Committees Directorate: Marc Toupin, Clerk of the Committee. From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Blayne Haggart; Researcher.

Witnesses: From the British Columbia & Yukon Territory Building & Construction Trades Council: Tony Tennessy, President, Operating Engineers Local 115. From the David Suzuki Foundation: Jim Fulton, Executive Director; Gerry Scott, Climate Change Director; Dermot Foley, Energy Director. From the Coalition to Renew Canada's Infrastructure: Jeremy Kon, Vice-Chairman. From the Greater Vancouver Regional District: Robert Paddon, Manager, Communications; Helen Sparkes, Mayor, New Westminister. From the University of British Columbia: Prof. Martha Salcudean, Emerita Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering. From the Coalition of Leaky Condo Owners: James Balderson. Pursuant to Standing Order 83.1, the Committee continued its study on Pre-Budget Consultations.

Jeremy Kon, Tony Tennessy, Helen Sparkes, David Fulton, James Balderson and Martha Salcudean made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:54 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:04 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Susan Harney, Janie Loomer Margolis, Heather Northrup and Donna Herringer made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 12:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
