Meeting No. 81

Thursday, May 9, 2002

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in the Galileo Room of the Giovanni Caboto Club, Windsor, Ontario, the Chair, Jean Augustine, presiding.

Member of the Committee present: Jean Augustine.

Acting Members present: Joe Comartin for Svend Robinson; Jerry Pickard for Bernard Patry.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the City of Windsor: Michael Hurst, Mayor; John David Tofflemire, Commissioner, Traffic Engineering. From the University of Windsor: Fritz Rieger, Professor of Business. From the Windsor and District Chamber of Commerce: Linda Smith, President; Alfie Morgan, Member, Board of Directors; Jim Drummond, Member, Board of Directors; Lorraine Shalhoub, Director, External Affairs and Public Policy, Daimler Chrysler Canada.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on North American Integration and Canada's Role in the Light of New Security Challenges and the study of the Agenda of the 2002 G8 Summit (see Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, October 16, 2001, Meeting No. 31).

Michael Hurst, John David Tofflemire, Fritz Rieger, Linda Smith, Alfie Morgan, Jim Drummond and Lorraine Shalhoub made statements and answered questions.

At 11:35 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
