Wednesday, May 8, 2002

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:08 a.m. this day, in the Ballroom of the Holiday Inn Calgary Downtown, Calgary, Alberta, John Harvard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Harvard, Keith Martin.

Acting Member present: Yves Rocheleau for Francine Lalonde.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament:  Gerald Schmitz, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the International Institute for Sustaniable Development: Aaron Cosbey, Associate and Senior Advisor, Trade and Investment. From the G6B Conference, Education Session: Randy Rudolph, Co-chair. From the University of Calgary: Don Barry, Professor, Canadian Foreign Policy and International Relations. From Churches and Corporate Social Responsibility, Calgary Group: Clint Mooney. From Project Ploughshares Calgary: Kerry Duncan McCartney, Programme Coordinator; Janet Sisson, Member. From Results Canada: Catherine Little, National Manager. From the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers: Larry Morrison, Manager, Oil Sands. From the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies, University of Calgary: Robert Huebert, Associate Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on North American Integration and Canada's Role in the Light of New Security Challenges and the study of the Agenda of the 2002 G8 Summit (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, October 16, 2001, Meeting No. 31).

Aaron Cosbey, Randy Rudolph, Don Barry, Clint Mooney, Kerry Duncan McCartney and Janet Sisson made statements and answered questions.

At 12:08 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Catherine Little, Larry Morrison and Robert Huebert made statements and answered questions.

At 3:47 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
