The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:09 a.m. this day, in the Admiral’s Ballroom of the Radisson Plaza Hotel Admiral, Toronto, Ontario, the Chair, Jean Augustine, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, Stockwell Day.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From Glendon College, York University: Stéphane Roussel, Professor of Political Science. From the University of Toronto: Stephen Clarkson, Professor of Political Science. From Greenpeace Canada: Sarah Blackstock, G-8 Campaigner. From the United Steelworkers of America: Lawrence McBrearty, National Director; Sheila Block, Researcher. From the Canadian Council for International Cooperation: Gerry Barr, President; Miriam Mukutuma, Deputy General Secretary, Zimbabwe Congress Trade Union; Salihu Lukman, National Director of Education, Nigerian Labour Congress. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on North American Integration and Canada's Role in the Light of New Security Challenges and the study of the Agenda of the 2002 G8 Summit (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, October 16, 2001, Meeting No. 31).

Stéphane Roussel, Stephen Clarkson, Sarah Blackstock, Lawrence McBrearty, Sheila Block, Gerry Barr, Miriam Mukutuma, Shalihu Lukman and Anita Zaenker made statements and anwered questions.

At 12:45 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:53 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Ernie Regehr and David Albright made statements and answered questions.

At 2:36 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Danielle Goldfarb made a statement and answered questions.

At 3:10 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:16 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Diane Richler and Salimah Valiani made statements and answered questions.

At 4:28 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
