Meeting No. 75

Monday, May 6, 2002

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:19 a.m. this day, in the West Ballroom of Hotel Fairmont Winnipeg, Winnipeg, Manitoba, the Chair, Jean Augustine, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine.

Acting Members present: Pat Martin for Svend Robinson; Anita Neville for Bernard Patry.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the University of Manitoba: James Fergusson, Deputy Director of the Centre for Defence and Security Studies; George MacLean, Professor of Political Studies. From the Canadian Foodgrains Bank: Jim Cornelius, Executive Director; Stuart Clark, Senior Policy Advisor. From the Canadian Wheat Board: Larry Hill, Director, Board of Directors; Victor Jarjour, Vice-President, Strategic Planning and Policy. From the Manitoba Federation of Labour: Rob Hilliard, President; John Doyle, Communications Coodinator.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on North American Integration and Canada's Role in the Light of New Security Challenges and the study of the Agenda of the 2002 G8 Summit (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, October 16, 2001, Meeting No. 31).

James Fergusson, George MacLean, Jim Cornelius and Stuart Clark made statements and answered questions.

At 11:01 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:07 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Larry Hill, Victor Jarjour, Rob Hilliard and John Doyle made statements and answered questions.

At 12:13 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
