The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:07 a.m. this day, in the Sackville Room of the Delta Barrington Hotel in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Chair, Jean Augustine, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, George S. Baker, Aileen Carroll,

Acting Members present: Yves Rocheleau for Francine Lalonde.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From Dalhousie University: John Hoddinott, Professor of Economics. From the Atlantic Provinces Chamber of Commerce: Sean Cooper, Regional Executive Director.  From the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council: Elizabeth Beale, President and Chief Executive Officer. From the Centre for Foreign Policy Studies, Dalhousie University: Frank Harvey, Director and Professor of Political Science.  From the Ecology Action Centre: Mark Butler, Marine Co-ordinator. From Enviro-Clare: Jan Slakov, President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on North American Integration and Canada's Role in the Light of New Security Challenges and the study of the Agenda of the 2002 G8 Summit (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, October 16, 2001, Meeting No.31)

John Haddinott and Sean Cooper made statements and answered questions.

At 10:38 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:22 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Elizabeth Beale made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:21 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Frank Harvey, Mark Butler and Jan Slakov made statements and answered questions.

At 3:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
