The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Bill Casey, Bill Graham, John Harvard, Stan Keyes, Diane Marleau, Pat O'Brien, Pierre Paquette, Denis Paradis, Svend Robinson, Monte Solberg.

Acting Members present: James Moore for Keith Martin; Richard Marceau for Francine Lalonde.

Associate Members present: Irwin Cotler, Antoine Dubé, Claude Duplain.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Lee; John M. Wright, Peter Berg, Blayne Haggart.

Appearing: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: John Manley, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Pierre Pettigrew, Minister of International Trade.

Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Louise Léger, Deputy Director General, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade; Claude Carrière, Director General, Trade Policy Bureau I; Michael Brock, Director, Inter-American Division; George Haynal, Assistant Deputy Minister - Americas.

Ministers Manley and Pettigrew each made a statement and with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
