The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Colleen Beaumier, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Colleen Beaumier, Bill Casey, John Harvard, Francine Lalonde, Diane Marleau, Pat O'Brien, Deepak Obhrai, Pierre Paquette, Denis Paradis, Svend Robinson.

Acting Member present: Rick Casson for Gary Lunn.

Associate Member present: John Duncan.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Lee.

Appearing: The Honourable Pierre Pettigrew, Minister of International Trade.

Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Robert G. Wright, Deputy Minister for International Trade; Kathryn McCallion, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services, Passport and Consular Affairs; John Gero, Assistant Deputy Minister, International Business and Chief Trade Commissioner; Claude Carrière, Director General, Trade Policy Bureau I, Chief Negotiator, Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA).

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(6), and the Order of the House of March 1, 2001, Main Estimates 2001-2002: Votes 1a, 5a, 10a, 20a, 25a, L30a, L35a and 45a under Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

The Minister made a statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
