Introduction of Government Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Martin (Minister of Finance), seconded by Mr. Peterson (Secretary of State (International Financial Institutions)), Bill C-45, An Act respecting the provision of increased funding for health care services, medical equipment, health information and communications technologies, early childhood development and other social services and to amend the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

      Her Excellency the Governor General recommends to the House of Commons the appropriation of public revenue under the circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in a measure entitled "An Act respecting the provision of increased funding for health care services, medical equipment, health information and communications technologies, early childhood development and other social services and to amend the Federal- Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act".

NOTICES OF MOTIONS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF PAPERS

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities of Bill C-44, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act.

Mr. Pettigrew (Minister for International Trade) for Mrs. Stewart (Minister of Human Resources Development), seconded by Mr. Martin (Minister of Finance), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

Debate arose thereon.

MOTIONS

By unanimous consent, it was ordered, -- That, notwithstanding any Standing Order, all questions necessary to dispose of Motion M-259, standing in the order of precedence on the Order Paper in the name of Mr. Riis (Kamloops, Thompson and Highland Valleys), be deemed put and a recorded division deemed requested and deferred until later this day, at the expiry of the time provided for Government Orders.
