Meeting No. 30

Thursday, May 11, 2000

The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Joseph Volpe, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Julian Reed, Guy St-Julien and Joseph Volpe.

Acting Members present: Dale Johnston for David Chatters; Monique Guay for Serge Cardin.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Grant Purves, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the "Association des médecins du réseau public en santé au travail du Québec": Dr. Luc Bhérer, Medical Consultant, Occupational Health, "Direction de la santé publique de l'Outaouais". From the Department of Human Resources Development Canada: Warren Edmondson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Labour; Gerry Blanchard, Director General, Operations, Labour; Michèle Beauchamp, Program Analyst, Operations, Labour; Rick Seaman, Program Analyst, Operations, Labour. From the Department of Justice: Jean-Pierre Aubre, LL.M., Counsel, Legal Services.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Friday, March 24, 2000, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-12, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code (Part II) in respect of occupational health and safety, to make technical amendments to the Canada Labour Code (Part I) and to make consequential amendments to other Acts (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, May 9, 2000 , Meeting No. 28).

The witness from the "Association des médecins du réseau public en santé au travail du Québec" made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:27 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:29 a.m. the sitting resumed.

Warren Edmondson made an opening statement and with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 12:46 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
