The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Julian Reed, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Réginald Bélair, Gilles Bernier, Serge Cardin, Ghislain Lebel, Julian Reed, Werner Schmidt, Guy St-Julien and Joseph Volpe.
Acting Members present: Paul Forseth for John Duncan; Alex Shepherd for Brent St.Denis.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Grant Purves, Research Officer.
Appearing: From Public Works and Government Services Canada: The Hon. Alfonso L. Gagliano, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada.
Witnesses: From Public Works and Government Services Canada: Ranald Quail, Deputy Minister; Senior Officials. From the Canada Post Corporation: The Hon. André Ouellet, President and Chief Executive Officer. From the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation: Claude Poirier-Defoy, President. In accordance with its Order of Reference from the House of Commons of Tuesday, February 29, 2000, consideration of the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2001 and report on Plans and Priorities (Part III) - Votes 1, 5, 15, 20, 25 and 30 under PUBLIC WORKS AND GOVERNMENT SERVICES.
By unanimous consent, the Chair called votes 1, 5, 15, 20, 25 and 30 under PUBLIC WORKS AND GOVERNMENT SERVICES.
Alfonso Gagliano made an opening statement and with R. Quail, F. Brazeau, C. Poirier-Defoy, A. Ouellet, B. Mulvihill, R. Winnicki and D. Wetherup, answered questions.
At 11:20, the Chair assumed the Chair.
At 12:52 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
