Thursday, February 17, 2000

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Yvan Grose, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Aileen Carroll, Ivan Grose, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, John McKay and Pierrette Venne.

Acting Member present: Paul Forseth for Chuck Cadman.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: From the "Commission des services juridiques": Me Diane Trudeau, « Direction des services juridiques »; Mario Gervais, Lawyer, Longueuil Region; Benoit Gingras, Lawyer, Quebec Region. From the Criminal Lawyers' Association: Irwin Koziebrocki, Vice-President, Toronto; Carol Letman, Director, Peel Region.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, November 23, 1999, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-3, An Act in respect of criminal justice for young persons and to amend and repeal other Acts (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, November 30, 1999 , Meeting No. 5).

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
