Meeting No. 21
Thursday, April 6, 2000
The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in camera at 11:23 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Sarmite Bulte, Wendy Lill, Rick Limoges, Clifford Lincoln, Inky Mark, Dennis Mills, Mark Muise, Alex Shepherd.
Acting Member present: Suzanne Tremblay for Pierre de Savoye.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Joseph Jackson; Terry Thomas, Research Officers. As Consultants: David Black and Kevin Burns.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Consideration of the Canadian Book Publishing Industry.
It was agreed,- That the Committee sit in camera.
It was agreed,- That the minutes of this meeting not include the names of the witnesses.
It was agreed, - That one copy of the transcript of this meeting be produced; and
- That the said transcript be made available for consultation to the members in attendance at the meeting and to the Research Officers and consultants providing that the said consultations take place in the Committee Clerk's Office and that the said consultations be approved by the Clerk and the Chair.
It was agreed,- That no staff be in attendance at this meeting other than those employed in an official capacity by the House of Commons, the Interpreters, the Clerk, the Research Officers and the two Consultants.
It was agreed,- That the witnesses be heard separately.
It was agreed,- That the Committee only hear the witnesses agreed to prior to the meeting.
It was agreed,- That Mosaic Press, Groupe Renaud-Bray, Chapters Inc., Pegasus Wholesale and Indigo Books be invited to appear before the Committee.
The witnesses appeared separately, made opening statements, and answered questions.
At 1:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
