MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 3

Tuesday, November 16, 1999

The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:15 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Lynn Myers, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Gurmant Grewal, Keith Martin, Bill Matthews, Réal Ménard, Lynn Myers, Bernard Patry, Greg Thompson, Rose-Marie Ur, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From Health Canada: Ian Shugart, Visiting Assistant Deputy Minister, Organizational Renewal, Health Protection Branch; Joel Weiner, A/Director General, Policy, Planning and Coordination Directorate, Health Protection Branch; Monique Charron, Director of Program Policy and Planning, Medical Services Branch; Ian Potter, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Promotion and Programs Branch.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), information session on Health Canada.

Marie Fortier, Associate Deputy Minister, Health Canada, made an opening statement and along with Ian Shugart, Visiting Assistant Deputy Minister, Organizational Renewal, Health Protection Branch answered questions.

Judy Wasylycia-Leis moved, -- That Health Canada table with the committee a copy of the Impact Review conducted by each branch of the department.

The Chair took the matter under advisement and stated that he would get back to the Committee next week.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 1:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
