MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 28

Wednesday, June 7, 2000

The Standing Committee on Health met in camera at 12:38 p.m. this day, in Room 306, West Block, the Chair, Lynn Myers, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Yvon Charbonneau, Reed Elley, Ovid Jackson, Réal Ménard, Bob Mills, Lynn Myers, Marcel Proulx, Karen Redman, Paul Szabo, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Member present: Joe Jordan for Ted McWhinney.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier; Tim Williams, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Health Canada: Jane Meyboom, Associate Director General, Bureau of Tobacco Control; Dr. Gillian Lynch, Director General, Bureau of Tobacco Control; Norm Brown, Senior Policy Analyst, Tobacco Regulations Task Force; Karen Proud, Senior Regulatory Advisor, Tobacco Regulatory Task Group.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Friday, May 12, 2000 the Committee resumed consideration of the Proposed Tobacco Regulations (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday May 31, 2000, Meeting No. 22).

- Consideration of a Draft Report.

The Committee commenced consideration of its Draft Report to the House, in camera.

At 12:50 p.m., it was agreed, - That the meeting proceed in public session while members put questions to Health Canada Officials.

Jane Mayboom and Gillian Lynch answered questions.

At 1:18 p.m., by unanimous consent, the Committee proceeded to sit in camera. The Committee resumed consideration of its Draft Report to the House.

It was agreed, - That the Chair report the Proposed Tobacco Regulations to the House of Commons, without amendment, as the Third Report of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That the Committee approve an operational budget in the amount of $6,000.00 for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2001.

At 1:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
