Monday, June 5, 2000

The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Lynn Myers, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Yvon Charbonneau, Réal Ménard, Bob Mills, Lynn Myers, Marcel Proulx, Paul Szabo, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Member present: Joe Jordan for Rose-Marie Ur.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Tim Williams, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Association of Independant Convenience Store Operations Inc.: Sam Jabbour, Director, President Sam's Convenience. From the Ontario Convenience Stores Association: R. F. Egerdie, Executive Director; Arnold Kimmel, President, Quickie Stores. From Non-Smokers Rights: Garfield Mahood, Executive Director. From Physicians for a Smoke-Free Canada: Neil E. Collishaw, Research Director. From Action on Smoking and Health: Les Hagen, Executive Director. From the Small Guys Tobacco Group: Colm K. O'Shea, Vice President, House of Horvath.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Friday, May 12, 2000 the Committee resumed consideration of the Proposed Tobacco Regulations (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday May 31, 2000, Meeting No. 22).

R.F. Egerdie, Arnold Kimmel and Sam Jabbour made opening statements and answered questions.

Les Hagen, Neil E. Collishaw and Garfield Mahood made statements and answered questions.

At 5:32 p.m., Bob Mills took the Chair

Colm O'Shea made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
