Tuesday, November 16, 1999

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in a televised session at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, John Duncan, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Yvan Bernier, John Cummins, Claude Drouin, John Duncan, Wayne Easter, Bill Gilmour, Bill Matthews, Lawrence O'Brien, Carmen Provenzano.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.

Witness(es): From the Indigenous Bar Association: Larry Chartrand, Past President; Melinda Martin. As Individual: Stephen Patterson, University of New Brunswick.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), study on the implications of the September 17th, 1999 Supreme Court decision on R. v. Marshall on the Management of fisheries in the Atlantic Region.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

On motion of Carmen Provenzano, it was agreed, - That the operational budget be approved.

At 11:04 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
