MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 41

Thursday, March 16, 2000

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Yvan Bernier, John Cummins, John Duncan, Wayne Easter, Bill Gilmour, Marcel Proulx, Carmen Provenzano and Lou Sekora.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon.

CHAIRMAN'S DECISION

On March 2, 2000 the Committee adopted the Steering Committee Report which included in there was a motion to travel. Therefore the Committee did not have to debate a separate travel motion which the Committee, on a recorded vote, pronounced their decision. Hence we will now proceed to the motion on the travel budget.

It was moved, - That the Chair be authorized to write to the Minister re-stating that the Committee requests the appearance of James Mackenzie and Gilles Thériault before the end of March, 2000.

After debate thereon, the question being put on the motion, it was negatived.

It was moved, - That the travel budget in the amount of $171,489.00 be approved and debate continuing.

A lack of quorum being drawn to the attention of the Chair, at 4:45 p.m., the meeting was adjourned to the call of the Chair.
