The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Colleen Beaumier, Bill Graham, Francine Lalonde, Diane Marleau, Ted McWhinney, Deepak Obhrai, Denis Paradis, Bernard Patry, Yves Rocheleau, Bob Speller.

Acting Members present: Alex Sheppard for Ted McWhinney.

Associate Member present: Bill Blaikie.

From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee, Research Officer.

Appearing: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Pierre Pettigrew, Minister of International Trade.

Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Jonathan Fried, Assistant Deputy Minister for Trade and Economic Policy; Kathryn McCallion, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services, Passport and Consular Affairs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), and the Order of the House of February 29, 2000, the Committee examined the Main Estimates 2000-2001 for International Trade.

Hon. Pierre Pettigrew made an opening statement and, with Jonathan Fried and Kathlyn McCallion, answered questions.

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
