The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:14 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, Ted McWhinney, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Colleen Beaumier, Bill Graham, Francine Lalonde, Diane Marleau, Keith Martin, Ted McWhinney, Denis Paradis, Svend Robinson, Bob Speller.

Associate Member present: Aileen Carroll.

From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz and James Lee, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: BGen J.O.M. (Michel) Maisonneuve, Director General, Land Force Readiness. As Individual: John Polanyi, Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of Toronto; Graham Green, Former Ambassador of Canada to Croatia, Columnist, The Ottawa Citizen.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its examination of the conflict and post-conflict periods in Kosovo. (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, February 10, 2000, Meeting No. 19.)

At 9:18 a.m., BGen Michel Maisonneuve made an openeing statement and answered questions.

At 9:35 a.m., the Chair, Bill Graham, took the Chair.

BGen Michel Maisonneuve continued to answer questions.

At 10:10 a.m., John Polanyi and Graham Green each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 11:08 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
