Wednesday, December 15, 1999
The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in camera at 4:14 p.m., this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, John Harvard, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Hélène Alarie, Rick Borotsik, Murray Calder, John Harvard, Howard Hilstrom, Gar Knutson, Larry McCormick, Joe McGuire, Dick Proctor, Rose-Marie Ur.
Acting Members present: Wayne Easter for Mark Assad, Rick Limoges for Ian Murray, Rick Casson for Gerry Ritz, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold for Odina Desrochers.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch - Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Researcher; Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to meet in camera to examine its future business.
It was agreed, -- That a letter be sent to the Minister of Agriculture and a copy to the Minister of Finance and the Prime Minister, following the Committee's hearings in the Western Provinces.
Its was agreed, -- That this Committee study and report to the House about a clear and mandatory labelling mechanism for genetically modified organisms.
At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
