GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The Order was read for the consideration of a Ways and Means motion respecting the imposition of duties of customs and other taxes, to provide relief against the imposition of certain duties and taxes and to provide for other related matters, notice of which was laid on the Table on Tuesday, October 7, 1997 (Sessional Paper No. 8570-361-1). (Ways and Means Proceedings No. 1)

Mr. Vanclief (Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food) for Mr. Peterson (Secretary of State (International Financial Institutions)), seconded by Mrs. Stewart (Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development), moved, -- That the motion be concurred in.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on division.

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Industry of Bill C-5, An Act respecting cooperatives.

Mr. Vanclief (Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food) for Mr. Manley (Minister of Industry), seconded by Ms. Robillard (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Industry.

Debate arose thereon.

MOTIONS

By unanimous consent, it was ordered, -- That Bill C- 202, An Act to amend the Canada Health Act (nutrition services), standing on the Order Paper in the name of Mr. Patry (Pierrefonds -- Dollard) be allowed to stand in the name of Mr. Bertrand (Pontiac -- Gatineau -- Labelle) and to retain its place on the Order Paper.

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Manley (Minister of Industry), seconded by Ms. Robillard (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration), -- That the Bill C-5, An Act respecting cooperatives, be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Industry.

The debate continued.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on division.
