MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 11

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 1998

The Standing Committee on Transport met at 9:02 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 362-E, East Block, the Chair, Raymond Bonin, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Roy Bailey, Roy Cullen, Bev Desjarlais, Claude Drouin, Ivan Grose, Michel Guimond, Stan Keyes, Inky Mark, Paul Mercier, Lee Morrison and Carolyn Parrish.

Acting Members present: Jacques Saada for Murray Calder.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From Vial Rail: Terry W. Ivany, President & Chief Executive Officer; Michael Gushue, Vice President, Customer Services; Gerry Kolaitis, Director of Corporate Planning and Financial Support.

In accordance with Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of a review of passenger rail services offered by Via Rail and the means to revitalize this important mode of transporation within the context of the fiscal and environmental concerns facing the Government (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, February 17, 1998, Meeting No. 10.)

Terry Ivany made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 11:25 o'clock a.m., the Committee begain to sit in camera.

It was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the proposed budget of $60,000 for its trip to England and France in relation to its study of passenger rail service.

At 12:04 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
