Meeting No.24

Thursday, March 26, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in camera at 3:38 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Ivan Grose, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Odina Desrochers, Mac Harb, Gurmant Grewal, Ivan Grose, René Laurin, Lorne Nystrom, Rey Pagtakhan, Andrew Telegdi and Elsie Wayne.

Acting Members present: John Bryden for Mark Assad, John Richardson for Elinor Caplan, Sophia Leung for Steve Mahoney, Gerry Ritz for John Williams, Rob

Anders for Jason Kenney, Derrek Konrad for Philip W. Mayfield, Paul Szabo for Lynn Myers.

In attendance : From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O’Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of the Draft Report on the Public Accounts of Canada 1996-97 (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, December 9, 1997, Meeting No. 13).

The Committee resumed consideration of paragraph 12 of the Draft Report and proposed revisions thereto.

Paragraph 12, as amended, was agreed to.

Paragraph 19 was agreed to.

It was agreed, -That the Draft Report, as amended, be concurred in;

That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report; and

That the Report, as amended, be presented to the House of Commons.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, -That the Report be further amended by adding a new paragraph and recommendation before the last paragraph.

It was agreed, -That the members of the opposition parties be authorized to have appended to the Report dissenting opinions, pursuant to Standing Order 109, provided that the dissenting opinions are received by the Clerk of the Committee not later than Tuesday, March 31, 1998.

At 4:48 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned.
