MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 63

Thursday, April 22, 1999

The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met at 11:42 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Réginald Bélair, Gilles Bernier, Gerry Byrne, Roy Cullen, John Duncan, Tony Ianno, Marlene Jennings, Carolyn Parrish, Carmen Provenzano, Werner Schmidt, Ben Serré, Brent St. Denis.

Acting Members present: Francine Lalonde for Ghislain Lebel; John O'Reilly for Ben Serré; Peter Stoffer for Yvon Godin; Marlene Catterall for Tony Ianno.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages and Jack Stilborn, Research Officers.

Appearing: The Hon. Alfonso Gagliano, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada.

Witnesses: From the Public Works and Government Services Canada: Ran Quail, Deputy Minister. From the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation: Marc Rochon, President; Bill Mulvihill, Vice-President. From the Royal Canadian Mint: Danielle Wetherup, President. From the Canada Information Office: Marc Lafrenière, Executive Director. From the Canada Post Corporation: André Ouellet, President.

1999-2000 Main Estimates: Votes under PUBLIC WORKS AND GOVERNMENT SERVICES.

The Minister made a statement and with the witnesses answered questions.

It was agreed, - That the Committee approve the Budget Submission in the amount of $73,595.00 for a visit and public hearings in Vancouver, Williams Lake and Bella Coola concerning its study of Canadian Forest Management as an International Trade Issue and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Sub-Committee.

It was agreed, - That the dates for the Committee's travel be changed from May 16 - 19 to May 11 - 14, 1999.

At 1:06 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
