Thursday, November 26, 1998

The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

Members) of the Committee present: Réginald Bélair, Gilles Bernier, Gerry Byrne, David Chatters, Roy Cullen, Pierre de Savoye, John Duncan, Tony Ianno, Werner Schmidt, Ben Serré, Brent St. Denis.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages; Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Industrial, Wood & Allied Workers of Canada: Darrel Wong, President; Darol Smith, Executive Board Member; From the International Forest Products Ltd: Ric Slaco, Chief Forester. From the Western Forest Products Ltd: Bill Dumont, Chief Forester.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced a study on the state of the British Columbia Forest Industry.

Darrel Wong, Ric Slaco and Bill Dumont each made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

At 12:28 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
