The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met at 11:10 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 308, West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Réginald Bélair, David Chatters, Roy Cullen, Yvon Godin, Ovid L. Jackson, Jerry Pickard, Carmen Provenzano, Brent St. Denis and Bob Wood.

Substitute Members present: René Canuel for Pierre De Savoye.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From Natural Resources Canada: Mike Cleland, Assistant Deputy Minister, Energy Sector; Bryan Cook, Director General, Energy Technology Branch; Dr. Yvan Hardy, Assistant Deputy Minister, Canadian Forest Service; Mary Mes-Hartree, Director, Client Relations, Sciences Branch, Canadian Forest Service.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of knowledge and technology based industries in the Natural Resources Sector.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 12:45 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
