MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 54

Tuesday, November 17, 1998

The Standing Committee on Health met in camera at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Joseph Volpe, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Elinor Caplan, Grant Hill, Ovid Jackson, Maria Minna, Robert D. Nault, Denis Paradis, Pauline Picard, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Member(s) present: Lynn Myers for Dan McTeague.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier and Sonya Norris, Research Officers.

The Committee proceeded to consider its future business.

It was agreed, -- That the Committee invite officials from Health Canada to appear before the Committee on November 24, 1998, to report on progress made in the area of organ transplantation since the unanimous adoption of M-222 in the House of Commons on October 9, 1997.

It was agreed, -- That the Minister of Health and his officials be invited to appear regarding the Supplementary Estimates (B) and the Health Canada Performance Report.

It was agreed, -- That the Committee invite officials from the Auditor General's office in regards to Chapter 17: the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board and Chapter 12: Creation of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

It was agreed, -- That the Honorable Hedy Fry, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism) (Status of Women) be invited to make a presentation on current data and a horizontal approach to gender equality and diversity as they pertain to Health.

It was agreed, -- That the Committee invite officials from the Medical Research Council of Canada to appear before the Committee regarding the Report of the President of the Medical Research Council of Canada tabled in the House of Commons on October 28, 1998.

At 12:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
