(Meeting No. 5)

Thursday, November 20, 1997

The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:10 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 362-E, East Block, the Chair, Beth Phinney, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Elinor Caplan, Aileen Carroll, Claude Drouin, Maurice Dumas, Reed Elley, Grant Hill, Lynn Myers, Beth Phinney, Maurice Vellacott, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Members present: Claudette Bradshaw for Rose-Marie Ur, Stan Keyes for Joseph Volpe and Mark Muise for Greg Thompson.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore and Nancy Miller-Chenier, Research Officers.

On motion of Elinor Caplan, it was agreed, - That the Standing Committee undertake a study on natural health products as requested in the letter to the Committee dated November 13, 1997 from the Minister of Health.

Judy Wasylycia-Leis moved, - That the Committee hold a meeting to consider the Multilateral Agreement on Investments.

And the question being put, the motion was defeated on the following division:

YEAS: 6 NAYS: 7 -13

At 12:25 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
